Live, Work, Play 3rd Ward: Campaign Strategy & Creator Application

Tell Your Story or Someone Else Will: Reclaiming the Narrative of Houston’s Historic 3rd Ward

When we talk about economic development, the discussion often turns to commercial real estate, foot traffic data, or tax incentives. But real, lasting revitalization doesn’t begin with brick and mortar—it begins with place and culture.

Every neighborhood has a soul shaped by its history, small businesses, legendary figures, and everyday residents. Houston’s historic Third Ward possesses one of the richest, most vibrant cultural legacies in the American South. From its historic landmarks and artist spaces to its culinary hotspots and community centers, the Third Ward is more than just a geographic coordinate; it’s a living, breathing ecosystem.

When economic growth happens with a community rather than to it, narrative sovereignty is everything. That’s why our core belief at The 3rd Ward Real Estate Council (TWREC) is simple: Tell your story or someone will.

What is Live, Work, Play 3rd Ward?

To drive sustainable traffic and economic vitality back into our corridors, TWREC launched Live, Work, Play 3rd Ward. We aren't treating this campaign like a standard social media page. We are building a community-driven digital broadcast network for the 3rd Ward—a digital home for short films, mini-documentaries, business spotlights, podcasts, comedic skits, photo essays, and creative storytelling of all genres.

True economic development happens when people fall in love with a community's authentic character. By handing the mic to local storytellers, we ensure that as our neighborhood grows, its soul remains intact, celebrated, and economically empowered.

Calling All Creatives, Filmmakers, and Storytellers

We want local producers, creatives, content creators, and filmmakers to be the primary program directors of this network. Whether you are an established director or an emerging digital creator with a smartphone and a vision, we want your production ideas.

  • Genre-Agnostic: Documentaries, narrative shorts, docuseries, music-driven pieces, architectural tours, or local business profiles.

  • Flexible Formatting: From 60-second vertical reels to multi-part long-form series, we welcome formats that suit the story being told.

  • Funding & In-Kind Support: For accepted concepts, TWREC can provide small production budgets or in-kind support (equipment access, location scouting assistance, media promotion) to help bring your project to life.

What We Look For

  1. Rooted in Place: The concept must directly highlight, reflect, or take place within Third Ward and the surrounding community.

  2. Authenticity: Stories that honor the history, residents, small businesses, or future potential of the neighborhood without tokenization.

  3. Engagement Potential: Content that encourages people to visit, support, live, or invest in the Third Ward ecosystem.

  4. Feasibility: A clear plan for execution within budget and timeline expectations.

Submission Criteria & Review Process

To ensure fairness and alignment with our community development goals, all submissions will be evaluated by a local committee of community stakeholders, business leaders, and media professionals.

  1. Submit Your Pitch: Fill out our online submission form detailing your pitch, logline, target audience, estimated budget, and production timeline.

  2. Committee Review: The local committee reviews submissions monthly based on cultural relevance, creativity, and community impact.

  3. Notification & Orientation: Approved applicants receive official notification and are scheduled for an orientation meeting to review production parameters, disburse support funds, and set delivery dates.

  4. Production & Delivery: Creatives produce their content with optional in-kind support from TWREC, delivering final cuts ready for distribution.

  5. Broadcasting & Promotion: Your work is published across the Live, Work, Play 3rd Ward network, credited to you, and promoted to drive traffic, support local artists, and boost neighborhood businesses.

Don't let outside voices define what Third Ward is, was, or will become. Bring your camera, bring your vision, and help us show the world why this community is the best place to live, work, and play.
