Building an Ecosystem for Small-Scale Development in Houston

A Movement Rooted in Community

The 3rd Ward Real Estate Council’s Do the Things that Matter! campaign is bringing together action-oriented real estate professionals, developers, and stakeholders who believe that revitalization starts with relationships. Each month, the Council hosts a social gathering designed to connect people driving small-scale development — the kind that builds more than just housing, but stronger, walkable, and socially connected neighborhoods. This isn’t another networking event. It’s a growing ecosystem for change.

Why Small-Scale Development Matters

Houston’s future depends on small developers who can fill the gaps between large-scale projects — the cottage courts, mixed-use infill, and adaptive reuse that make neighborhoods feel human again. But it takes collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and policy reform to make that vision a reality.

By joining our monthly gathering, you’ll be part of a movement to:
- Create toolkits that advocate for small-scale development policy.
- Build a shared library of best practices for infill and mixed-use projects.
- Activate underutilized spaces for community benefit.

A Pathway for Emerging Developers

The Council is currently accepting applications for its first accelerator cohort, designed to help emerging developers gain the tools, mentorship, and community support to scale their projects responsibly and sustainably.

Join the Movement

If you believe in building not just structures but communities — ones that are dense, walkable, and full of life — this monthly meetup is where you belong. Let’s shape the future of Houston, one block at a time.
